Today more than 4,500 formulations have been registered in Uzbekistan. Of these, more than 2,000 drugs are produced by foreign pharmaceutical companies, about 1,300 are produced by CIS countries, and more than 300 drugs are registered and produced in Uzbekistan. Currently, representatives of more than 80 foreign pharmaceutical companies operate in Uzbekistan. The largest pharmaceutical products companies are mainly from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Poland, France and the United States, while Uzbekistan has only 92 manufacturers of medical devices and medicines. Before Uzbekistan's independence in 1991, there was only one pharmaceutical factory, and most of the medicines needed were imported from other countries. After independence, it has grown to 18 pharmaceutical factories, of which 6 are domestic pharmaceutical factories, and the other 12 are joint ventures with countries such as Britain, Germany, India, the Czech Republic, Switzerland and Turkey. About 300 kinds of commonly used drugs are produced, but it is far from meeting the demand of the domestic market. There are about 800 kinds of common drugs in Ukraine's domestic demand, and all the demand vacancies need to be imported, in addition, 60% of the raw materials for drug production also rely on imports.
